A miniaturized drone capable of flying up to 11mph over a 20m space.
Drones are another desirable gift this Christmas. According to the Consumer Technology Association, over 400,000 consumer drones are expected to be sold this Christmas. While there are many brands and models of drones currently being released, this article will focus on Parrot’s Airborne Cargo Mini Drone.
Seen as one of the least expensive and kid-friendly drones available, Parrot’s Airborne Cargo Mini Drone comes with some of the following features:
- Built-In Camera – which captures 480×640 photos and stores them on 1 GB flash memory
- Durable and Shock Resistant – can do flips, turns, and stunts without causing damage. The drone is also equipped for travel indoors and outdoors.
- Cargo areas and attachment centers to store and attach small objects
- Compatible with iOS or Android smartphones or tablest using the FreeFlight 3 app to control the drone
The drone also comes with easy-to-fly capabilities. You can activate it to take off automatically with the push of a button or toss the drone in the air and its sensors will start the engine and stabilize the drone automatically. A 3-axis accelerometer and gyroscope, pressure sensors, ultrasound sensors, etc. help to maintain the stability of the drone ensuring a safe flight.
Despite the popularity of this product, one of the downsides is that even though the drone houses a powerful battery, at full charge, the drone is only capable of flying for 9 minutes before the battery needs to be recharged which takes 25 minutes. This might discourage some who expect to get more play time out of the device.
The Parrot Airborne Cargo Mini Drone currently costs $129.99 CDN. There is some current government legislation in the works that will require you to register your drone upon receiving it in order to satisfy growing safety and privacy concerns.
Drones are definitely one of the top gift ideas this Christmas. Like a high-tech toy helicopter, it’s definitely one that is delighting adults and children alike.
