The collaboration between Citrix and your computer provides continuous access to your workplace data and files.
Remote access has become one of the new ways to work. With our hectic and continuously changing lives, the 9-to-5 workday has been getting a continuous upgrade. Remote access is one of the ways that users are able to pick up and continue their work outside of the office. Whether it’s at home, in a coffee shop or hotel room, users now have the ability to access their work from anywhere; literally.
Citrix – Revolutionizing the “Home Office”
Citrix is a robust platform that, combined with Cloud computing technologies, provides a complete virtualized desktop for you to work on. Simply put, Citrix configures a desktop and delivers it to your current computer. Through Internet Explorer, Chrome or other browsers users can access this virtualized desktop from any computer connected to the Internet. Here’s an example of what a virtual desktop can look like:
How your Desktop Computer Completes the Picture
Working on Citrix requires some type of computing device to be effective. For the sake of this article, I have focused on the traditional PC desktop though you could use a Mac, ChromeBook, tablet – even a smartphone.
Accessing your workplace computer requires the aforementioned Citrix-Internet plug-in installed on your machine and a designated website address belonging to your firm which is created by your IT provider.
Typing in this web address in an Internet browser will bring up a log-in screen where users enter a username and password, thereby granting them access to their workplace desktop. Optionally, two factor authentication using a security token can also be incorporated into the login sequence.
Once logged into your workplace desktop, you will have access to all of the files, applications, etc. that you do in the office using the same modern operating systems that you are now used to.
The Omnipresent Workplace
Since the Internet is one of the primary connectors to your work, any computer can be used to access your workplace desktop. Working on a document and have to catch the train to get home? No problem, simply disconnect the desktop midsentence. When you get home and log back in, the document will be right where you left ii so that you can finish up.
Finally, speed and performance is quite good on Citrix, from a firsthand perspective, the ability to create new documents, print documents, send emails, and browse the Internet can be done at relatively the same speed as in the office.
Working together Citrix and your PC desktop provides a complete remote access experience that ensures users always have access to their work, regardless of where or when in the world they happen to be.
