Using your smartphone as a PC is not a new idea.
The evolution of smartphones has been rapidly growing and today the smartphone is becoming a much more powerful computing platform. Their CPUs are faster and more powerful than ever before. Storage in not an issue now, and with Android, you can have even more when you install a memory card.
These expansions in technology have made smartphones powerful enough to handle the workload of your laptop. Some key factors keeping people from doing this are the phones’ small screen, and the lack of a mouse and full-size keyboard. So a joint solution from Samsung and Citrix is one of the best solutions which pushes the smartphone to play an even more important role in the Cloud era and can easily turn your mobile phone into a desktop computer.
Apart from Citrix, Microsoft and Samsung, the one company that could make this phone-as-a-PC experience more of a reality is Google. Strange that Apple hasn’t shown interest in turning iPhones or iPads into full PCs just yet, apart from an early patent filing.
Google turning phones into PCs is pure assumption right now, but Samsung and Microsoft have to first prove that consumers and businesses actually want this. If they do, then of course Google, and perhaps even Apple, will follow Microsoft and Samsung’s early footsteps.
Particularly, Samsung Galaxy S8 came complete with the new DeX station which can work as a Mobile-as-a-PC.
All in all, I can confidently give the Samsung S8 and the DeX combination with Citrix Receiver a double thumbs up. The only thing you should think now is… what to do with your laptop?
You use your phone for email, typing up notes, image editing, playing games, shopping online and so much more! For all intents and purposes, the smartphone sitting in your pocket is a personal computer. It’s arguably as powerful as many devices sitting on workstations in offices around the world. So why not use it to replace your desktop PC?
